Classical Horsemanship & Riding Therapy

Even at the very oldest archaeological sites, the bones of men and horses often rest in the same grave.   Why this affinity?

The horse is far superior in strength.  A horse can lend a man wings, or destroy the man.  What makes the difference?

Instinctively,  the horse achieves dominance through combat  within the herd, and fears any radically different creature.  How then do  man and horse become companions?

The creation of a constructive inner relationship is the chief prerequisite.  This inner relationship places much the same demands on the partners as does a human to human relationship: mutual respect, individual authenticity, sensitivity, communication and  'patience, yet again patience'.

The foundations of  therapeutic riding involve two bodies, two minds and two spirits.  Together, man and horse can each transcend the limitations of "self".

A well-schooled therapy horse offers not only to share his strength and  movement but also to share in a creative relationship. The lessons learned with horses contribute to long-term personal development.

Horses have gifts to give us: gracefulness of body, mind and spirit.
