Formal inauguration of St. Andrew's Society, Bytown, 29 May 1846.
30 November 1848, dinner at McArthur's Hotel (about 25 persons present). "Death of St. Andrew," article in the Packet, 1 December 1848 (p. 19).
Ball held in Bedard's Hotel, 30 November 1849. Owing to some discord, meetings discontinued for a number of years, Society broken up for time being.
1859 - Burns' centenary - "'a feast of reason and flow of soul' at McArthur's, the banner of St. Andrew's Society, surmountedby St. Andrew's cross, being hung behind the chairman." (p. 20)
1861 - Dinner in British Hotel (toasts, poem, - p. 25).
1862 - Service at St. Andrew's, dinner at Mathew's Hotel (toasts, songs, - p. 27).
1864 - Annual games, Belleview Gardens, August (400-500 attended). Nov. 30 - service at St. Andrew's, dinner at Graham's Hotel (the Albion) (menu, toasts, songs, etc. - pp. 29-31). New toast to Educational Institutions of Canada. Games or picnic held in subsequent years.
1865 and following years - Service at St. Andrew's, Bank St. Church, Knox Church, St. Paul's. Dinners at various hotels.
1868 - Society incorporated by Ontario Government. First Gold Medal for best poem awarded to Mr. Robert Calder of Chatham,Ont. Thistle Down. On obverse side of medal a Scotch thistle and the motto Nemo me impune lacessit (p. 40). Mr. Calder won goldmedal again in 1871 for poem The Marriage of the Marquis of Lorne and Her Royal Highness the Princess Louise (p. 48).
1869 - Request for membership from Sir John A. Macdonald, elected. His speech at St. Andrew's Night dinner (p. 44).
1871 - Presidential Badge ($30) and new Banner ($300) procured for Society (p. 48). August 5, celebration of Sir Walter Scott's Centenary and Caledonian Games.
1875 - Society joined on Nov. 30 by newly formed Caledonian Club for procession to St. Andrew's Church (p. 55).
1876 - Games and dancing at Agricultural Show Grounds attended by some 4,000 people (p. 57).
1878 - Society and the Caledonian Club attended service at St. Andrew's Church. Concert in Opera House attended by G.G. Marquis of Lorne and Princess Louise, representatives of St. Andrew's and Caledonian Societies from several cities in Ontario (p. 62).
1879 - Ball in Skating Rink, hall "gorgeously decorated with banners." Attended by Governor-General, Sir John A. Macdonald.Price of tickets, $5 single, $7 couple (p. 63).
