History of the First Century of the St. Andrew's Society of Ottawa - 1846 - 1946,

1915 - Society presented 8 sets of Lawrie Bagpipes to 77th Battalion ($300) (p. 123).

1918 - 325 members, 72 on Active Service. Society took special interest in raising of the 38th Battalion and on 4 Nov. 1920 the pipeband of the Society was transferred as a unit to the Battalion (p.129).

1921 - Society voted $50 to give visiting Scottish football team lunch at the Chateau Laurier (p. 130). Life Membership set at $40.1922 - Membership down from 419 to 351 (p. 131). 1923 - Authority to purchase and frame the picture "Scotland for Ever" to be hung in Board room (p. 133).

1929 - Society affiliated with The St. Andrew Society of Edinburgh. Annual fee one guinea (p. 138). 1930 - Society property valued at: Banner, $300, Piano, $200, pictures and furniture, $500(p. 140).

1933 - "Scottish societies...decided to form Council to take up matters of common interest so that meetings and celebrations would not conflict and so that members of all societies could attend the larger gatherings organized by each. Each society to notify the others of any such entertainment being held" (p. 143).

1934 - By-Laws amended to allow women to become members of Society. "Col. Gillies was authorized to deposit completed Minute Books and other Records in the Archives, Ottawa" (p. 144).

1935 - Certificate of membership in The St. Andrew's Society of Edinburgh received and framed for hanging in Board room of Society. Illuminated Address to Lord Tweedsmuir, G.G., photographed and hung in Society's Board room. Banquet and dance at Chateau Laurier (300 guests) (p. 145).

1936, 1937 - Banquet and dance at Chateau Laurier. Society receives from Mrs. Thorburn some documents pertaining to St. Andrew's Society found among her husband's papers (p. 148).

1938 - Banquet and dance at Chateau Laurier (400 guests). G.G.Lord Tweedsmnir guest of honor. Replied to the toast to Scotland (pp.150-51). 1939 - Picture of "Highland Mary" presented to Society by Dr. Small and Mrs. C.M. Pitts. Hangs in Board room (p. 151).

1939 - Archives acknowledges receipt of documents from Society back to 1878 and 1859. St. Andrew's Day gathering in Trafalgar House, Cartier St. (p. 151).

1940 - President A.E. Cameron, co-author of History of the First Century. Banquet and Dance in Oddfellows Hall, Somerset St. W. (p.153). New gavel presented to Society by past President (p. 155).

1943 - Membership 164 and improving. 1944 - Benefit Scottish concert for Merchant Seamen (p. 161). 1946 - List of items held by Archives (p. 163).

1946 - Centennial banquet and dance, Chateau Laurier (500 guests).President Roderick Colin NcDonald. Guest speaker Mr. Percy J. Philip, Ottawa correspondent of the New York Times, replied to the toast to Scotland (native of Kirkcudbright, Scotland) (pp. 165-169).
