Levstein is not a very common name. Lefstein, a variation of the name, is only slightly more
common.Some of our relatives had their names written as Lefstein when they went through immigration
portals in the late 19th and early 20th century. Our family came from the Daugavpils (aka Dvinsk or
Dünaburg) areas of Latvia (Kovno Gubernia or Vitebsk Gubernia depending upon the year) as well
as Utena in Lithuania (Kaunas Gubernia) - though we apparently had cousins in other Gubernias
(probably Poltova Gubernia). We currently know of relatives living in: Canada, the USA, England,
Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Argentina, Germany, and Russia.
