How are election campaigns conducted for the Municipal Assemblies?

It costs nothing for the candidates to run for office at this or any other level. Because the candidates are presumed to be locally known there is no campaigning as such at the municipal level. The electoral district or constituency in an urban setting, for example, is typically an area of about eight city blocks (two blocks by four blocks). And the candidate must be a resident of the constituency in which he or she is nominated.

To ensure that no candidate gains an unfair advantage, the local Electoral Commission maintains strict control over the electoral process. Standardized posters, authorized by the Commission, will include a photograph and a brief biography of each candidate are posted in prominent places throughout the constituency. It is strictly prohibited to develop individual election campaigns outside of guidelines set by Commission. This is also true at the provincial and national level.
