About Bapkek

The philosophy at "Bapkek Bouviers" is: to breed a dog of proper temperament and Conformation. Not an easy task. I want my dogs to meet my needs of a working protection dog, not vicious or shy, but one that is very eager to please his master and protect his/her family and home and play with the kids and able to walk safely to the corner store. I want a dog that meets the breed standard, I think its a beautiful animal and does not need to be changed. My dogs are not for every home but those who like them, like them a lot! Franco-Belgian example

The Bouvier des Flandres was developed from various working dogs, herding and protection. The key to his famous temperament comes from his eagerness to please, protect and energy to last. You can take comfort in a good Bouvier like no other breed. He reminds me of a male lion confident in his serene power and is rarely challenged. A Bouvier is Lord of all he surveys.

The Bouvier des Flandres, I think is a beautiful animal. Rather large, square and hairy. Not pretty or cute. He is naturally a rough looking ticket. The Bouvier moves and looks like a cube, very square and cobby. Every piece of the dog is part of the whole package and not one part should be bred to extreme or all is lost.

Having said this, there is the other side to the coin. The Bouvier des Flandres can be domineering , high strung, smelly and needs weekly grooming. Please read Don't Buy a Bouvier by Pam Green. Also read The Dogs of Flandres Fields by Jim r. Engel, before you purchase a puppy. Spend some time researching this wonderful breed and stay away from so called breeders that "always have just the right puppy for you". I waited for 2 years to buy the right pup for me and she is still my favorite.

All good breeders do health checks on their dogs before they are bred. Ask to SEE the certificates for hips and eyes, don't just ask if they were done. A good dog costs good money.

I am a member of the Canadian Kennel club and also the Vice President of The Bouvier des Flandres Club of Canada.
